AEJAY MITCHELL
Director of Theater and Dance

AeJay Mitchell is an educator, actor, singer, dancer, and choreographer based in Oakland, California. Originally from Louisiana, they studied, performed and taught for the past decade across the United States. They trained in Dance, Theatre, and Music at Wake Forest University in North Carolina and is an alumni of Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival's Apprenticeship Program where they took classes from Monica Bill Barnes, Camille A. Brown, Hofesh Schecter, and Barak Marshall among others. They also worked with dance theatre and performance artists Yin Mei, Tim Miller, Joe Goode, and the Architects.

Their acting, direction and choreography has been applauded by many Bay Area journalists including the SF Chronicle, and have performed on stages in all American time zones! They are excited to have spent this past summer training and dreaming in France.

 

Their joy is spreading the love of performing arts to students of all ages. When not educating, you can see them on stage at regional Bay Area theatres, where they serve as company member Black Artists Contemporary Cultural Experience and Bay Area Musicals, both based in San Francisco, as well as a founding member of L'Elite Players based in Louisiana.

 

They were newly tapped to serve as a company member for Theatre 1st based in Berkeley, California, helping to keep new work developing and producing alive in the Bay Area.

 

AeJay is a proud member of Actor's Equity Association, and serves as a member of Bay Area Play Festival New Work Adjudicators.
